Mugello Circuit - first circuit in the world to host hives for pollinator bees
Sustainability means Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello. It is no coincidence that Ferrari's facility was the first in the world to obtain the prestigious “Achievement of Excellence” award, the highest level of attestation of environmental sustainability issued by the FIA (International Automobile Federation), as well as being the first to obtain ISO 20121 in 2020 and the only circuit in the world with an integrated certification system.
Among its many firsts, the Mugello racetrack also holds that of being the first circuit in the world to host beehives for pollinating bees to send a strong message of awareness about the importance of bees for the ecosystem and biodiversity. Indeed, it must be remembered that bees play an essential function within the food chain. In fact, bees are responsible for about 70 percent of the pollination of all living plant species and ensure 35 percent of global food production. For this very reason, its protection, and that of pollinating insects in general, is of paramount importance in order to preserve the already precarious balance of our ecosystem.
The five beehives housing some 120,000 bees were inaugurated on the occasion of the 2024 MotoGP Italian Grand Prix. The hives are located inside the first corner, the San Donato, and in their honor the curbs have been colored yellow and black. During the 2024 season, there have been many awareness-raising initiatives carried out by the Circuit involving riders from all MotoGP classes, as well as young talents from the CIV Italian Speed Championship and more experienced drivers from the Italian Auto Championships.
