From October 2 to 4, Mugello hosts the first edition of the Italian Historic Grand Prix. From the tribute to Ferrari’s Golden Age with the drivers from the Schumacher era, to more than 250 historic cars and 18 breathtaking races.
For great motorsport enthusiasts, the Italian Historic Grand Prix on the ups and downs of Mugello is an event not to be missed.
This first edition pays tribute to the most glorious decade in Ferrari’s Formula 1 history, from 1996 to 2006. Nine single-seaters from that era will take to the track, driven by the drivers who contributed to the Scuderia’s extraordinary success during those years.
SCUDERIA FERRARI – GOLDEN AGE: 1996-2006
The only team to have competed in every Formula 1 season since the World Championship was inaugurated in 1950, Scuderia Ferrari has experienced several eras of success, but none has matched the results achieved during the 1996-2006 period. During this extraordinary decade, the Scuderia won six Constructors’ World Championships, 87 Grands Prix and achieved 203 podium finishes.
Legendary was the Dream Team made up of Jean Todt, Ross Brawn, Rory Byrne and Michael Schumacher, which won five Drivers’ World Championships. This golden chapter in Ferrari’s history will be celebrated during the first edition of the Italian Historic Grand Prix, which will take place at the Mugello Circuit from October 2 to 4.
Organized by HVM Racing and the Mugello Circuit, in collaboration with Ferrari, the event will feature no fewer than nine single-seaters designed in Maranello between 1996 and 2006, from the F310 to the 248 F1. Visitors will be able to appreciate the extent of the technical developments that characterized this era: from the transition from the naturally aspirated 3.0-liter V10 to the 2.4-liter V8 and the introduction of grooved tires, to the increasing use of aerodynamic appendages such as bargeboards, turning vanes, chimneys and even “penguin wings”
.
These single-seaters will take to the track as part of the “Golden Age 1996-2006” parades led by iconic figures from Ferrari’s racing history, including René Arnoux, Gerhard Berger, Giancarlo Fisichella, Eddie Irvine, Mika Salo and Stefan Johansson.
But make no mistake, this will not just be a historic parade, but a true race weekend. It starts on Friday with qualifying, followed by the races on Saturday and Sunday for the competing categories. In addition to more than one hundred Formula 1 cars divided into grids by decade, there will also be Formula 2, Formula 3 and Master Endurance Legends.
“The cars will all be on track, we at Ferrari always support our customers and we are the only manufacturer to have a department dedicated to historic cars,” commented Antonello Coletta, Ferrari Global Head of Endurance and Corse Clienti, while presenting the event.
It is also a source of great pride for Paolo Poli, CEO and director of the Ferrari-owned Mugello circuit: “It is an honor to be able to host this first Italian edition. Our track was central during the 1996-2006 decade, when Schumacher and Ferrari used the circuit to develop the cars. At the time, in fact, private testing in F1 was permitted.”
Three days of races and events to relive the legend, then, at Mugello from October 2 to 4. In addition to the activities on the list, for fans, in the dedicated area, there will be F1 simulators and an exhibition village. All in celebration of Schumacher for a first, unmissable edition of the Historic Grand Prix in Italy.
