Auto GP to race at Mugello in October
Auto GP will stage the final event of the 2011 Championship at Mugello on 1 and 2 October. The Italian race weekend will be the replacement for the Bucharest event that was scheduled for August but had to be cancelled after the local promoter wasn’t able to secure the track homologation and other essential conditions for the correct development of the races.
For Auto GP it will be the first time on the 5245 metres of the Italian circuit, a track that just one week ago hosted the Italian Grand Prix of the Moto GP Championship.
If undoubtedly it’s Motorbike racing that gave the track its international allure, it must be highlighted that also car racing at the highest level has an history in Mugello: until private testing was allowed in Formula 1, the track was the main testing venue for the Scuderia Ferrari team, and also other F1 teams came to Tuscany to make the most of a very challenging circuit: thanks to a very varied and natural layout, with uphill and downhill sections and blind corners, Mugello has always been deemed as an hard ‘test bench’ for both cars and drivers. So it will be a great challenge for the Auto GP drivers, and the right set to give the spectators a great show, both from the grandstands and on TV thanks to Eurosport's Coverage.
Paolo Poli (Mugello Circuit CEO): “Promoting all kind of high level motorsport is our corporate philosophy, and I feel that this agreement with Enzo Coloni fits perfectly in this definition. We’re happy to have on our track a Championship that despite its young age is already deemed as one of the most promising in international motorsport, also thanks to the great TV Coverage guaranteed by Eurosport.
From our side, we are happy that Auto GP will find a Mugello Circuit that is in his best shape ever: apart from our very technical layout, whose features has always been praised by the drivers, we will boast a brand new tarmac, new grandstands and new spaces for spectators in the Casanova-Savelli area”.
Enzo Coloni: “I’m really satisfied with this agreement with Mugello Circuit: it’s widely known worldwide, and drivers deem it as one of the most challenging tracks in the world. That’s why our drivers were very happy when we hinted at this possibility. Looking at the peculiarities of the circuit they will really have the chance to use all the potential of the car: the long main straight will allow them to unleash all the power and reach very high speeds, but they will have to work carefully on the aero balance of the car because Mugello has many corners that require a good amount of downforce. I’m sure that it will be a great show”.

Mugello extends MotoGP deal
Dorna Sports S.L and the Mugello circuit have reached agreement on a new five-year deal, meaning the Italian Grand Prix will continue to be held at the Tuscan circuit until at least 2016.
The circuit, which first featured on the World Championship calendar in 1976 and has held a Grand Prix event continually since 1991, has become one of the landmark features on the MotoGP schedule and welcomed the 2011 Gran Premio d’Italia with a brand new grandstand and resurfaced track.
Having hosted a GP event every year since the introduction of the four-stroke MotoGP formula in 2002, Mugello will also play host to the new 1000cc capacity prototypes which will make up the MotoGP grid in 2012.
Speaking about the new deal, Dorna CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta said: “It’s fantastic news to be able to announce this contract renewal with Mugello, which will see the circuit host the Gran Premio d’Italia for a further five years. This is an amazing facility which will have a place on the MotoGP World Championship schedule until at least 2016. The organisation of this race is very professional and the improvements we’ve found this year have done nothing but raise the circuit’s already extremely high standards. The new grandstand on the start/finish straight, the relaying of the asphalt which all riders from each of the three categories have praised, and the environment at Mugello make it a very special race which, fortunately, continues to be a mainstay in MotoGP.”
Paolo Poli, Chief Executive of the Mugello Circuit, commented: "We're very pleased to announce the renewal of the agreement which confirms Mugello will continue to be a MotoGP venue. This also ensures that the Italian Grand Prix will remain the most important event of our sporting calendar in years to come. In addition we will also continue our positive relationship with Dorna, whose professionalism has allowed motorcycle racing to be more successful and popular than ever."
Stefano Domenicali, Ferrari Team Principal, added: “The Autrodromo Internazionale del Mugello has become more and more important within our company, and this new deal is a great tribute to the Mugello circuit, its staff and the work that has been done here in the past few years."
